Identifying Your Strengths That Will Elevate Your Business

by Latifah Abdur

Everybody has a unique set of strengths that make them a force to be reckoned with. In the business world, identifying these strengths can help you hone in on them and make you a top performer.

What are your strengths?

We’ve all seen the keywords like “detail-oriented,” “problem-solver,” or “leadership material.”  These adjectives are great identifiers when picking out your own personal strengths to apply them to your work life. As a business owner, these will separate you from the crowd and establish you as a driving force in your industry.  Sometimes it’s hard to objectively speak positively about yourself without any criticism. But, remember, as the saying goes: you are your own worst critic.

How to find your strengths

There are several ways to find what makes you stand out. Personality tests are helpful as a starting point. They can break down key traits which you can apply to practical, real-world strengths. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is among one of the world’s most popular personality tests, and with good reason. It offers a comprehensive look at personalities categorized into 16 potential results. For example, an INFJ personality type could list organizational skills as a business strength.

Additionally, having conversations with people is one of the most helpful ways to gather these key identifiers. If people say you’re a good negotiator, use that when communicating with potential clients and existing clients.

Remembering your passions is helpful, too. We’re often best at what we’re most passionate about. This may seem like a no-brainer, but if you really love marketing, odds are that is one of your strengths! Knowing this information allows you to build upon the skills you already have, while potentially discovering new ones along the way.

Everybody’s unique set of characteristics creates a vibrant business world that is exciting and enriching. If you practice what you’re good at, it can motivate you beyond what you previously thought was possible. Having a clear idea of your personal strengths can also help you plan and achieve your goals. These additional layers that keep you organized and move you closer to the bigger picture.
